Your MacBook… lovely in leather!

Yet another MacBook sleeve. Or is it a case? Or a shell?

The Uniea U-Suit for MacBook has a leather exterior and a tough lightweight ABS plastic liner to protect your MacBook from scrapes, bumps, dust and dirt. The shell is two separate pieces — one for the top, one for the bottom — so all MacBook ports, air vents and the optical drive remain accessible when the U-Suit is on.

It looks like suede but Uneia say it's washable 'luxurious leather'. Comes in four different colors—blue, gray, white and pink/red and all a bit pastelly-looking. (Interestingly, the U-Suits for MacBook Pros come in macho white, gray or black.) About $70 from iShoppo.com and selected retailers.

Hot MacBook? This sleeve protects to 250°C!

The MacBook heat issue doesn't seem to be as widespread as first feared, but if you've got a hot one, or you just want to be on the safe side, Wrappers has launched the MacBook sleeve and lap protector, a heat resistant rubber sleeve that insulates against temperatures up to 250°C.

Wrappers' MacBook sleeve and lap protector features

  • Trim in six different colours: black, purple, red, blue, green and orange
  • Spongey exterior protects your notebook against scratches and light bumps
  • Super soft cotton lining that won't scratch your MacBook
  • Insulates against temperatures up to 250°Centigrade

If your MacBook IS running at 250°C, reach for the extinguisher - you're probably on fire :)

Apple advises ' Do not leave your MacBook in contact with your lap or any surface of your body for extended periods. Prolonged contact with your body could cause discomfort and potentially a burn. Do not place your MacBook on a pillow or other soft material when it is on, as the material can block the airflow vents, in particular the rear vents and cause the computer to overheat.' Hot new MacBook Air case!

While some MacBooks have had problems with heat, the new MacBook Air has demonstrated that it's cool in every sense of the word. Now along comes the Ion Factory's Iridium-Air Shell which has the rainbow look of overheated metal.

Trouble is, the rainbow effect must be handled with care. As Ion says:

'the ION Iridium-Air Shell may need to treat with special care. In case of dust or such, use only mild soap and water, let it air dry.'

Seems a bit daft for a case that's supposed to be tougher than the MacBook it's supposed to protect. Read all about it on Wired.
