Connect MacBook to TV with iPod adaptor?

How do I connect a macbook to a tv? I have the adaptor that connects an ipod to the tv, can that work?

  1. you need an A/V to mini DVI cable

  2. The adaptor that connects an ipod to the TV – no. The ipod end is proprietary to the iPod. It doesn’t relate to the MacBook.

The MacBook has a mini DVI port. So you need a mini DVI to DVI adapter. Then you can use DVI to HDMI (cable or adaptor) or DVI to VGA adapter, depending on what suits you best for your TV.

Though if you’re going to an old TV (not an HDTV), then you might need a VGA to Video adapter as well. Its getting a bit heavy handed on the adapters then though. So you then might want a PC to Video converter box (check out sewell.com or amazon.com). That would then give you a reliable method to get a composite RCA output for the TV (that’s a SD only method, so only well suited for older TVs, use VGA or HDMI for a modern HDTV).
