How to keep Macbook battery healthy?

Until recently my battery HEALTH has been 100% Today I looked and realized it was now at 99%. Within an hour it went down to 98%. I'm assuming Battery Health means overall health of your battery, because underneath it is another percentage reflective of your battery's charge. I've had my Macbook for exactly one year, and I know the battery goes down over time, but how accurate could these numbers be and how can I prevent it from going down quickly and preserve the life of my battery.
I have 286 cycles.
I hit it with a hammer. Now my battery health is 100%, thanks.
