MacBook problem! How to fix?

I have had my MacBook for about a year and yesterday the dock suddenly disappeared. Then I tried to restart and shut it down but the logout timed out. I tried to log out, but same problem. The only way I get it to work and get on the internet is by inserting a CD (because the tool bar at the top disappeared,) and then I click on the apple icon and find Safari, but it's annoying.. and I really don't want to have to go to the Apple Store, so any help, please!

  1. First of all, even if you didn’t have your dock, you can access the internet by using the Finder and going to Applications > Safari.

[Edit: You can open a new finder window by hitting Command + N when you aren't in an application window]

Second of all, go to your System Preferences > Dock. Make sure that "Automatically hide and show the Dock" is unchecked.
