What’s a good external display to use with a MacBook Pro 15"?

Thinking about getting MacBook Pro 15" but definitely will need additional larger monitor.
Can I connect the laptop to any monitor? Please give me some suggestion on good quality monitor that will go with the MacBook Pro. Thanks!!
