My Macbook 13 has lasted 4 years now. I had Apple care and used it to replace the battery and the power supply. I use it for work and home so it has seen a lot of hours. If it's white, get a skin and one of those covers for the wrist rest and the track pad. They get dirty

Any laptop should last 3-7 years before a hardware component fails.

This is true for ALL laptops. Macbooks do not have special hard drives that are less prone to failure than HP laptops.

Your HP laptop dying after only two years is unusual. Either by just freakish chance it died early. Or you don't know how to take care of it and somehow damaged it (overheating is usually the culprit behind premature hardware failure).

I have a 476 Mac, vintage 1992 and it still works. That's 17 years. I now use a MacBook and put my G4 Quicksilver in the attic and that still works, it's 7 years old.
