What’s your opinion of the MacBook?
I am planning on purchasing a macbook in the next few months. I was just wondering what other people thought about them...good and bad.

I’ve had a MacBook for almost 3 years now. No problems, no viruses, no malware, it has worked fine. The only thing I’ve done to it is to upgrade it to Snow Leopard and iLife 09.
My two Macs always work. I have never had to tweak, upgrade, repair or replace anything.
Both of our XPs FRIED their motherboards!!!

The Macs are just working along.
I never liked Apple. It is because if they break, or you need to get an upgrade you have to pay an arm and a leg. I think you should go PC because you can get a better system and you will be able to find parts to fix it easily in the event it breaks.
Well, I gotta balance this out: The good about Macs are that they are extremely well put together. For now, they are the best on the market performance wise.
They are excellent computers. The MacBook Pro is only $130 more than the basic white MacBook now and it’s absolutely worth upgrading. You will not regret it in the long run.
Battery life is excellent and it stays fast for years. Unlike PCs, it’s actually worth it to replace the battery when it dies in about 2-3 years. The expected lifespan of your laptop is no less than 5 years.
The only con, in my opinion, is that they make the 13" MacBook Pro so much better in just about every way. If you can afford the small step up to the Pro, you’ll be very glad you made the investment. It’s one pound lighter than the white polycarbonate MacBook (4.5 pounds versus 5.5 pounds) and has a much, much longer battery life (7 hours!). The backlit keyboard on the 13" MBP is also incredible. You will wonder how you ever used a computer without one. The plain white MacBook doesn’t have a backlit keyboard.
I love mine…I actually like it a lot better than my PC laptop, but I do use both. I am not a techno-wizard, I don’t do programming or a lot of technical stuff with the machine, but I do use it daily and for long stretches of time.
I bought a MacBook Pro with the 15" screen about three years ago because I was teaching in a school district that used both PC’s and Macs. I’d had Macs before, but not a "new" one, so I thought it would be a good idea to get current with the Mac stuff again after having been away from them for a while. I found it as easy as ever to use, and I’d forgotten a lot about Macs having been away for a while.
I think a lot of your choice depends on what you want to do with the machine. I use mine primarily for internet, word processing, some spread sheets, photos, and a few games (solitaire, mahjong, even some Sims). I put MS Office for Mac and it’s components on it, so I can share files with my PC and friends who have PC’s. I put a wireless card in it, so it travels with me when I go places, and it’s easy to transport because it requires only it’s power cord and a slip case.
I love some of the "little" features, such as the backlit key board, which is really nice in a semi-dark room. The clarity of the screen is a real plus, too, because it’s easy to read even fairly small print. There are fewer viruses out there to attack it, so that is also a big plus.
Spend some real time at an Apple Store and use the various machines before you commit yourself. They aren’t the cheapest machines on the market, but I believe you get what you pay for in that the machine lasts and doesn’t require as much servicing, etc. (I’ve not had the reason or need to have to open this one up, but I used to work on my desktop Mac all the time, and it was fairly easy to do with a little guidance.)
