The MacBook pros all come with at least 2 gb of ram which is enough for running the MacOS X. You shouldn't have any problems unless you are running a bunch of memory hungry apps at the same time. You can get special deals as a studnet at the Apple education store on line. Usually the computers are a couple hundred less and the throw something else in free. The glossy screen is a bit sharper but does have reflections.

Glossy or Matte is the screen surface. RAM is a huge part of performance. Depending on what your doing 1GB should be plenty for OS X.

Go to your local apple store! They know all this and are crazy helpful. They're also pretty "straight" with you (i.e. not just out to make the sale, very honest about the systems)

I have a Mac Book Pro (the black one) and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!!

An Apple Store will bee your best bet. Glossy means that the screen will be shiny and may reflect bright lights. Matte means that the screen won't be shiny and will reflect light to a much lesser extent.
RAM is random access memory. This is your computer's workhorse, it stores and processes vital information about the programs you are running. If you don't have enough RAM, your computer will run extremely slow.
