I am a proud owner of a Macbook Pro. I do not have any problem with the glossy screen. I think it enhanced my viewing experience. I would definitely go with the Macbook Pro because it has the Firewire 800 port, but the Macbook does not. I definitely suggest this laptop.

Some people hate the glossy screen. Others love it.

I have both a glossy (Macbook) and a matte (Apple cinema display).

My take: As long as you're in an environment where you have control of ambient lighting the gloss is not a problem.

Go to apple's website. Once you're there you can customize your laptop so that it will have a matte screen instead of a glossy one.

I have the newest macbook and I was worried about the glare, but I haven't had that much of a problem. There was this one day I brought it into a really sunny lecture hall and I could sort of see the people sitting in the row behind me because of the glare, but if you don't use it in direct sunlight, you should be okay.
